Commodities Get No Respect. Jim Rogers was certainly right when he wrote this truism. Commodities are maligned for not having “pricing power”, for being the realm of the unimaginative, for being “dirty” and most offensive to me, for being the realm of boring companies and non-innovative people.
These are all falsehoods of one form of another. Commodities are the building blocks of our world, key to modern societies and life itself. Long after Apple has been relegated to the dustbin of capitalism, the world will still depend upon wheat and rice, in whatever form and name they take, millennia into the future. Of that, I am sure of.
